A white horse is a symbol of freedom, courage and hope. This little white horse was my grandmothers and kept for good luck in her trinket box. She loved to ride horses and always had a horseshoe above the door to ‘hold the luck in’. My great grandmother, Dr Nina Muir studied at Otago School of Medicine and became NZ’s first female surgeon. When Nina practised in Gisborne she used to ride up the East coast on her horse treating women and delivering babies (she refused to ride side saddle). Both women very strong willed and determined.
This horse stands strong and still on my window ledge and I feel a gentle presence of the two women and their inner strength.
